U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry in Texas have seized heroin valued at over $566,000 in a recent enforcement action. This significant discovery highlights the ongoing drug threat faced by frontline CBP officers.
Port Director Pete Beattie stated, "Significant heroin seizures like these underscore the reality of the drug threat our frontline CBP officers face on a daily basis and illustrate their resolve in detecting, interdicting this poison and preventing it from reaching U.S streets."
The incident occurred on October 23 at the Camino Real International Bridge. A 2013 Chevrolet pickup was referred for secondary inspection, where CBP officers utilized canine units and non-intrusive inspection equipment. The examination led to the discovery of nearly 34 pounds of alleged heroin packed into ten packages within the vehicle. The street value of these narcotics is estimated at $566,681.
Following the seizure, both the narcotics and vehicle were confiscated by CBP. Homeland Security Investigations special agents have initiated a criminal investigation related to this case.
