U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry have apprehended a man wanted on a felony warrant for a sex-related offense against a child. The incident occurred on October 24th when CBP officers at the Del Rio International Bridge conducted a secondary inspection of vehicle passenger Alex Perez, a 33-year-old U.S. citizen.
Port Director Liliana Flores emphasized the importance of community safety, stating, "Protecting the safety of our communities is our top priority, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who pose a threat are held accountable." She highlighted the critical role CBP officers play in maintaining border security through such apprehensions.
During the inspection, officers used biometric verification and federal law enforcement databases to confirm Perez's identity. It was revealed that he was subject to an outstanding felony arrest warrant for indecency with a child (sexual contact), issued by Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office in Del Rio, Texas. Perez was subsequently transported to Val Verde County jail for adjudication of the warrant.
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) facilitates information sharing among law enforcement agencies, including data on outstanding warrants for various offenses. According to NCIC information, CBP officers have previously arrested individuals wanted for serious crimes such as homicide, escape, money laundering, robbery, narcotics distribution, sexual child abuse, fraud, larceny, and military desertion. It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
CBP is America's largest law enforcement organization and operates as the world's first unified border management agency. With over 65,000 personnel, CBP is responsible for protecting the United States across land, air, and sea borders while facilitating lawful travel and trade.
