U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge have intercepted a significant quantity of cocaine valued at approximately $608,147. The drugs were discovered concealed within a 2015 Nissan.
Port Director Tater Ortiz of the Brownsville Port of Entry stated, "Our CBP officers use multiple enforcement tools when conducting their inspections and their efforts yielded this significant drug seizure keeping it from reaching our streets."
The incident occurred on October 30, when a 22-year-old female U.S. citizen from McAllen, Texas, attempted to enter the United States in the vehicle. During a secondary inspection with assistance from a canine unit and a non-intrusive inspection system (NII), officers found 20 packages hidden inside the car. These packages contained a total of 45.54 pounds of cocaine.
Following the discovery, CBP officers seized both the narcotics and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations special agents arrested the driver and have begun a criminal investigation.
