The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has allocated $1.7 million to Asheville, North Carolina, for recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. The funds are intended to support the reconstruction of homes, businesses, and infrastructure damaged by the storm.
This financial assistance is part of the Biden-Harris Administration's ongoing efforts to aid families, business owners, farmers, and communities affected by the hurricane across the Southeast and Appalachia, including North Carolina.
"Today's award will provide immediate assistance to the City of Asheville from the devastation of Hurricane Helene," said HUD Agency Head Adrianne Todman. She emphasized collaboration with Asheville's leadership in addressing urgent needs and stressed the importance of securing additional funding for long-term recovery.
Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Marion McFadden for Community Planning and Development also commented on HUD's commitment to supporting Asheville. "The impact of the storm on Asheville will be felt for years, and we remain committed to partnering with the city for as long as it takes to help rebuild and recover," she stated. McFadden added that HUD is dedicated to ensuring access to safe and stable housing in disaster-impacted areas.
