CCIA amends lawsuit challenging Florida's social media law

The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), alongside co-plaintiff NetChoice, has filed an amended complaint in district court against Florida's social media law, SB7072. The law mandates that websites display all content posted by third parties, a requirement the CCIA argues is unconstitutional based on the Supreme Court's recent review of the lawsuit.

The statute, often referred to as a "must-carry" law, would restrict websites from exercising their First Amendment rights concerning content moderation. Websites could face regulatory challenges and potential fines if they fail to comply with this mandate.

Stephanie Joyce, Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff at CCIA, stated: “CCIA is continuing its fight to ensure Florida’s must-carry law is struck down. The government cannot force any speaker, be it a private citizen or a social media website, to say or disseminate speech against their will.”

For years, the CCIA has been actively involved in safeguarding online speech from governmental interference.
