Fuentes Farms recalls cucumbers over possible salmonella risk

ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

Fuentes Farms, LLC, based in McAllen, Texas, has initiated a recall of 71 boxes of fresh cucumbers due to potential Salmonella contamination. Salmonella can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms in healthy individuals may include fever, diarrhea (which can be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can lead to more severe conditions such as arterial infections or endocarditis.

The cucumbers were distributed in Texas through local vendors at flea markets in the McAllen and Alamo areas. The affected products bear a Fuentes Farm label with Lot number 357 on 40-pound boxes marked as vegetables against a black background.

There have been no reported illnesses linked to this recall. "Out of an abundance of caution," Fuentes Farms LLC is advising customers who purchased cucumbers from Lot #357 between May 31st and June 3rd to stop selling or consuming them.

The recall follows routine sampling by the company that detected the presence of Salmonella in finished products. Production and distribution have been halted while the FDA and Fuentes Farms investigate the source of contamination.

Consumers who suspect they have purchased cucumbers from Lot #357 should dispose of them or return them to where they were bought. For further information or inquiries, contact Fuentes Farms LLC at 1-956-340-8653 from Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. CDT or via email at sales@fuentesfarmsllc.com.
