Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has commented on the recent election results, highlighting support for pro-crypto candidates such as Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Senator-elect Bernie Moreno (R-OH). Garlinghouse shared his views in a November 5 post on X.
"To everyone who doubted it: the crypto voter is here to stay, loud and clear," said Garlinghouse. "Truly amazing to see crypto champions like @berniemoreno, @RitchieTorresNY, @gillibrandny and @RepAndyBarr get the W with this election."
According to Fox Business, Gillibrand, known for her support of cryptocurrency in the U.S. Senate, secured reelection "handily." Meanwhile, businessman Moreno defeated Ohio's incumbent Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown.
StandWithCrypto has rated Brown as "strongly against crypto," citing seventeen statements he made that were described as "very anti-crypto." These comments referenced various concerns including crypto "risks, scams, and fraud," potential "risks to consumers" and the "financial system," and questioned the absence of "a real public purpose for their existence."
CBS reported that between 18 million and 50 million Americans are using cryptocurrencies. A survey conducted by Gemini ahead of the 2024 election found that 73% of respondents indicated a candidate's stance on crypto could influence their voting decision.
Fox Business reported that prominent figures in the crypto industry, including Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, supported President-elect Donald Trump's campaign. Trump said during his campaign that he would dismiss U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler, who has initiated over 100 lawsuits against crypto companies. Trump also delivered a keynote speech at the annual Bitcoin Conference.
Garlinghouse's professional background includes serving as CEO of Hightail, president of consumer applications at AOL, and senior vice president at Yahoo before joining Ripple. According to the World Economic Forum, he also held various positions at Dialpad Communications and SBC Communications and is currently a board member of Animoto and OutMatch.
