Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong expressed his support for Bernie Moreno, stating that Moreno's victory over incumbent U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown signifies an understanding of the benefits cryptocurrency can offer to all Americans. Armstrong shared his views on the social media platform X on November 5.

"Being anti-crypto is simply bad politics," said Armstrong. "@berniemoreno understands that crypto is an important part of America's future. Bernie and the crypto owners who helped him secure this win understand how everyone can benefit from crypto and are willing to fight for it. Welcome to America's most pro-crypto Congress ever @berniemoreno."

According to Moreno, he frequently addressed cryptocurrency during his campaign. In a June post on X, he criticized "forever politicians including Brown" for their lack of understanding and qualification to regulate crypto. "They are obsessed with destroying crypto because they hate American innovation," Moreno said. He further asserted, "I'll lead the fight to defend crypto in the US Senate."

Crypto Potato reported that as chair of the Senate Banking Committee, Brown was considered a "staunch ally" of SEC Chair Gary Gensler and was "vehemently opposed to the crypto industry." In contrast, Moreno supported initiatives such as creating a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and advocated for bringing "regulatory certainty" to the digital asset sector.

Moreno's background includes being born in Colombia and moving to the United States at age five. His career began in the car dealership industry, as noted on his website. In 2016, he recognized blockchain technology's potential and became involved in related projects. He co-founded ChampTitles, a company offering paperless title solutions for government entities, where he served as chairman before stepping down and selling his stake.

Before founding Coinbase, Armstrong worked as a technical product manager at Airbnb, according to Crunchbase.
