Local media are invited to attend an announcement by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding a federal grant for the Port of Savannah. The event will take place on Friday, November 8, at 11 a.m. at the Garden City Terminal.
The EPA's Acting Regional Administrator Jeaneanne Gettle will reveal the amount of the grant, which is intended to fund electric power provision for vessels docking at the port. This initiative aims to allow ships to turn off their engines while docked, thereby reducing carbon emissions significantly.
In addition to Jeaneanne Gettle, comments will be made by Griff Lynch, President and CEO of Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), along with local officials including Mayor Van R. Johnson II of Savannah and Chester A. Ellis, Chairman of Chatham County.
Media representatives are encouraged to arrive by 10 a.m. at the GPA Administrative Office located at 2 Main St., Garden City, GA 31408. A port escort will guide them to the event site within the terminal.
