Within days of intercepting 170 pounds of marijuana destined for the United Kingdom, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers have seized an additional 343 pounds at a shipping facility in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

On November 6, CBP officers confiscated 25 parcels weighing a total of 60 kilograms, equivalent to 132 pounds and four ounces. Later that week on Friday, another seizure involved 52 parcels weighing a combined total of 95.6 kilograms or approximately 210 pounds and twelve ounces.

Together, these seizures amounted to a total weight of 155.6 kilograms or roughly 343 pounds. The street value of the marijuana was estimated at about $1.5 million. Depending on its potency, this amount could be worth two to three times more in London.

Additionally, CBP officers discovered a parcel containing two pounds and five ounces of hashish.

The intercepted shipments were being sent from various addresses in California to multiple locations across the U.K.

These recent events follow other significant seizures involving California cannabis shipped to the U.K., including one totaling 170 pounds in November and another incident where authorities found 114 pounds hidden inside luggage belonging to two women in October.

"Customs and Border Protection officers continue to seize an unprecedented number of illicit export parcels of marijuana," said Cleatus Hunt, CBP’s Area Port Director for Philadelphia. "CBP will continue to enforce our nation’s laws and protect the people by intercepting shipments that are illegal or potentially dangerous."

Federal law prohibits transporting marijuana across state lines or exporting it from the United States. However, CBP has noted an ongoing trend where growers and criminal organizations ship high-quality marijuana from the U.S. to Europe and Africa due to higher market prices overseas.

Last year alone, CBP officers seized an average of 2,339 pounds of dangerous drugs daily at national ports of entry. For more information on CBP's enforcement statistics and activities during "A Typical Day" in 2023, visit www.CBP.gov.
