The Advisory Committee on Responsible Business Conduct held its inaugural meeting today. The gathering featured remarks from Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Dafna Rand, along with Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Amy Holman. The committee focused on initial recommendations aimed at enhancing human rights and environmental considerations within business practices. These efforts align with the U.S. National Action Plan and the U.S. National Contact Point for Responsible Business Conduct.

Comprising 34 experts, the Advisory Committee includes representatives from business sectors, labor unions, trade and professional associations, civil society organizations, and academia. Its primary role is to advise the Department of State on important matters related to business and human rights. The announcement of this meeting was published in the Federal Register on October 22, 2024.
