Siemens and Microsoft are collaborating to advance industrial automation with the Siemens Industrial Copilot. This development leverages Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service to enhance the Copilot's ability to manage demanding environments at scale. The collaboration has resulted in a tool that improves efficiency, reduces downtime, and addresses labor shortages across industries.
Over 100 companies in Europe and the United States, including Schaeffler and thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering, are utilizing the Siemens Industrial Copilot. The software supports more than 120,000 engineers by enhancing programming skills through generative AI capabilities.
Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering is set to expand its use of the Copilot globally starting in 2025. This rollout will see machines engineered with the assistant integrated across their entire product range. Siemens is making these capabilities available on its Xcelerator platform.
Judson Althoff from Microsoft stated, "The collaboration between Siemens and Microsoft marks a pivotal moment in the industrial sector; one where AI Transformation becomes a cornerstone for innovation and operational efficiency." Cedrik Neike of Siemens added, "Together with Microsoft we scale industrial AI, empowering our customers throughout the industry to become more resilient, competitive and sustainable."
Since its release in July 2024, companies have used the Copilot for engineering tasks like creating panel visualizations rapidly and generating adaptable code. These features streamline workflows and reduce manual effort.
In battery quality assurance, thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering highlights how the Copilot enhances processes by automating tasks such as data management and sensor configuration. Dr. Volkmar Dinstuhl of thyssenkrupp commented on its potential impact: "Siemens Industrial Copilot will prospectively ease our workload and address the pressing challenges of labor shortages and increasing complexity in battery testing."
Further information about Siemens Industrial Copilot will be shared at an upcoming expo in Nuremberg.
