South Africa-U.S. defense committee strengthens bilateral cooperation

South African Acting Secretary of Defence Dr. Thobekile Gamede and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs Ms. Maureen Farrell led the 20th Republic of South Africa – United States of America Defense Committee meeting on November 19-20, 2024, in Pretoria, South Africa. The meeting underscored the commitment between the South Africa Department of Defence and the U.S. Department of Defense to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation.

Delegations from both countries engaged in detailed discussions covering various topics such as policy and strategy, operations, training and development, and acquisition and technology. Both nations pledged to maintain ongoing dialogue and collaboration. Participants at the DEFCOM agreed to convene their next meeting in 2025 in the United States.
