Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie Jenkins is set to visit The Hague, Netherlands, and Vienna, Austria from November 23 to 28.
In The Hague, she will attend the Twenty-Ninth Session of the Conference of the States Parties (CSP-29) of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). During this event, Under Secretary Jenkins will deliver a statement on behalf of the United States to emphasize its commitment to upholding the Chemical Weapons Convention and promoting accountability for chemical weapons use. She also plans to meet with civil society members during the conference to discuss efforts towards a world free of chemical weapons.
In Vienna, Jenkins will lead the U.S. delegation at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Science, Technology and Applications, as well as the Technical Cooperation Program. This conference aims to promote peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology in line with advancing UN Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally, Under Secretary Jenkins will oversee a side event organized by the Department of State that explores connections between U.S. climate change programs and sustainable development alongside IAEA's peaceful use initiatives. Another side event she will participate in focuses on using nuclear science to improve women's health and economic empowerment, organized by Kenya's government and WHEN.
