As a new presidential administration and Congress prepare to take office in Washington this January, the focus on China is expected to remain significant for policymakers. The competitive climate between the United States and China presents challenges for collaboration on global issues such as climate change, nuclear non-proliferation, and food security.
On December 6, the Brookings Institution and Center for Strategic International Studies will share findings from the initial phase of their "Advancing Collaboration in an Era of Strategic Competition" project. U.S. Representative Jim Himes (D-Conn.), who serves as the ranking member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, will engage in a keynote fireside chat discussing the future relationship between the U.S. and China. Additionally, a panel comprising scholars and practitioners will provide insights into how the United States can balance its security needs with addressing global challenges impacting American citizens.
