The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has initiated a new advertising campaign to acknowledge Representative Josh Gottheimer's support for the Main Street Tax Certainty Act. The campaign, which includes a radio advertisement, highlights Gottheimer's efforts to prevent a significant tax increase on small businesses in New Jersey by advocating for the permanency of the 20% Small Business Deduction.
Jeff Brabant, NFIB Vice President of Federal Government Relations, stated, "Small business owners want to see Congress take action and make the 20% Small Business Deduction permanent, and Rep. Josh Gottheimer has been a strong leader on this issue." He emphasized that "Main Street is at risk of a massive tax hike if the Small Business Deduction expires in 2025."
Brabant urged Congress to prioritize passing the Main Street Tax Certainty Act and expressed gratitude towards Rep. Gottheimer for his advocacy for small businesses in New Jersey.
The deduction in question, Section 199A, allows small businesses structured as pass-through entities—such as S corporations, LLCs, sole proprietorships, or partnerships—to deduct up to 20% of qualified business income. This provision is set to expire in 2025 unless legislative action is taken.
Brad Close, NFIB President, recently discussed the significance of this deduction for Main Street businesses across the nation in an op-ed published by the Wall Street Journal.
