Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse expressed optimism regarding Scott Bessent, President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for Treasury Secretary, suggesting that Bessent will support innovation and the digital asset industry. Garlinghouse shared his views in a November 22 post on X.
"Scott Bessent is the perfect pick by @realdonaldtrump," said Garlinghouse. "He will be the most pro-innovation, pro-crypto Treasury Sec we've ever seen."
According to CNBC, financial markets reacted positively to the announcement of Trump's selection of hedge fund manager Bessent as the next Treasury Secretary. Susannah Streeter, Head of Money and Markets at Hargreaves Lansdown, said, "Hedge fund manager Scott Bessent’s long career of navigating the twists and turns of markets has boosted confidence about incoming pro-business policies and lifted hopes that any tariffs would be highly targeted and potentially less inflationary in nature."
Bessent is currently the CEO and Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Key Square Capital Management. He previously held the position of CIO at Soros Fund Management and served as an adjunct professor at Yale University, according to Hope Global Forums.
Earlier this year, CoinDesk reported that Bessent voiced his support for the digital asset industry. In a July interview, he said, "Crypto is about freedom and the crypto economy is here to stay," adding that "Crypto is bringing in young people, people who have not participated in markets."
Before his tenure at Ripple, Garlinghouse was CEO of Hightail and held significant roles at AOL and Yahoo. The World Economic Forum notes that he also worked with Dialpad Communications and SBC Communications. Additionally, he serves on the boards of Animoto and OutMatch.
