U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry have intercepted over 400 pounds of methamphetamine, valued at approximately $3.7 million, in a recent operation. The seizure took place on November 25 at the World Trade Bridge.
Port Director Albert Flores commented on the event, stating, “This significant seizure of methamphetamine by our frontline CBP officers underscores the reality of the drug threat they face on a daily basis and exemplifies their determination and resolve to uphold CBP’s priority border security mission.”
The discovery was made when a tractor trailer carrying crushed marble stone was directed for secondary inspection. Officers used non-intrusive inspection technology and canine units to conduct the examination. This led to the finding of 66 packages containing nearly 423 pounds of suspected methamphetamine hidden within the shipment.
Following this discovery, CBP seized both the narcotics and the trailer involved. Homeland Security Investigations special agents have begun a criminal investigation into the matter.
CBP remains vigilant as America's largest law enforcement organization, tasked with protecting national borders through various means including ground, air, and sea operations. The agency continues to facilitate lawful travel and trade while enhancing national security through innovation and collaboration.
