CFTC schedules Market Risk Advisory Committee meeting for December 10

CFTC Commissioner Kristin N. Johnson, who sponsors the Market Risk Advisory Committee (MRAC), has announced a public meeting scheduled for December 10, 2024. The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EDT at the CFTC's headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The MRAC will discuss several important topics including central counterparty risk and governance, market structure, climate-related risk, and emerging technologies impacting derivatives and financial markets. Discussions will be led by the Central Counterparty Risk & Governance and Market Structure subcommittees with recommendations on CCP cyber resilience and critical third-party service providers, as well as the cash futures basis trade.

Details about the meeting's agenda are expected to be released soon.

The meeting is open to public participation both in person and virtually. Members of the public can access a live feed via phone or view a webcast through www.cftc.gov. Public comments related to the meeting can be submitted until December 17 under “Market Risk Advisory Committee.” Comments should follow online submission instructions or alternative methods by contacting Danielle Abada or Peter Janowski.

The MRAC provides advice to the Commission on evolving market structures and risk movements across various financial entities. It addresses systemic issues that could threaten derivatives markets' stability and offers recommendations for improving market structure and mitigating risks.

The CFTC oversees five advisory committees that provide insights on regulatory and market issues affecting U.S. markets' integrity and competitiveness. These committees enable communication between the Commission, market participants, regulators, and academics. The views expressed by these committees do not necessarily reflect those of the Commission or U.S. government.
