U.S. Secretary Blinken extends wishes on Laos National Day

On December 1, 2024, U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken extended his warmest wishes to the people of Laos on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR).

Blinken commended Laos for its successful ASEAN chairmanship and noted his visits in July and October. He highlighted the growth in U.S.-Lao PDR relations since their Comprehensive Partnership was established in 2016, emphasizing collaboration in sectors such as education, public health, agriculture, and trade.

Looking ahead, Blinken mentioned upcoming milestones including the 75th anniversary of U.S. diplomatic presence in Laos in 2025 and a decade of their Comprehensive Partnership by 2026. He expressed confidence that cultural exchanges would continue to strengthen bilateral ties.

"With a vibrant Lao-American population that continues to enrich the United States," he stated, "I am confident that our cultural and people-to-people exchanges will continue to grow."

He concluded by offering sincere regards for a joyous celebration on Lao National Day.
