Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Le Hoai Trung, Chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Commission for External Relations, on December 2, 2024, at the Colin L. Powell Treaty Room in Washington, D.C. The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the United States and Vietnam.
During their discussions, Secretary Blinken highlighted the mutual benefits arising from this partnership. "It’s a great pleasure to receive Chairman Trung here at the State Department," said Blinken. He emphasized that the relationship is yielding positive results in areas such as semiconductors, supply chain resilience, educational exchanges, capacity building, cultural exchanges, and addressing war legacy issues.
Chairman Trung echoed these sentiments and expressed his appreciation for the progress made during President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam. "The leaders of the two countries... agreed to establish the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership," Trung stated. He reiterated Vietnam's commitment to furthering bilateral relations with the U.S., noting that "the partnership has brought about tangible benefits for the people of our two countries."
Looking ahead to 2025, which marks 30 years since the normalization of relations between Vietnam and the U.S., both leaders expressed optimism about continued advancements in their partnership for peace and sustainable development.
