U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has dedicated a new Valor Memorial to honor the sacrifices of its fallen personnel. The ceremony took place on November 19, 2024, at CBP's headquarters in Washington, D.C.

"We remember the service and sacrifice of CBP’s fallen, as we dedicate our new Valor Memorial in their honor," said Troy A. Miller, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Commissioner. "Now and always, we look to this memorial and remember their bravery, dedication, and selflessness."

The memorial is a circular structure made of glass window panels that symbolize continuity and eternity. These panels rest on a granite foundation representing CBP's strength and fortitude. The names of 328 individuals from current and legacy CBP agencies are etched into these panels. These agencies include the U.S. Border Patrol, Immigration Bureau, U.S. Customs Service, Immigration and Naturalization Service, Animal and Plant Inspection portions of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and trade inspectors.

The structure also features words reflecting CBP's core values: vigilance, service, and integrity. A quote from Laurence Binyon’s Ode of Remembrance is included: "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn, at the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them."

"Unfortunately, the names of more heroes will be added," Mr. Miller stated. "The nature of our work dictates this stark and somber reality." He emphasized that future ceremonies would add more names to honor additional colleagues who have made ultimate sacrifices.

CBP is America's largest law enforcement organization with over 65,000 personnel tasked with protecting America on land, air, and sea while facilitating lawful travel and trade.
