The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Chicago State University (CSU) have joined forces to encourage careers in environmental science and engineering, collectively known as STEM fields. This collaboration aims to enhance research efforts and engage students from diverse backgrounds.
“Fostering partnerships with institutions of higher education and raising awareness of environmental careers and research is a vital part of EPA’s mission to protect human health and the environment,” said EPA Regional Administrator Debra Shore. “These efforts also deepen our connections with local communities and help us work together to address environmental issues.”
Dr. Sonja Feist-Price, Provost at Chicago State University, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative: “Through this partnership with the EPA, our students will gain invaluable hands-on experience, professional mentorship, and opportunities that support and elevate CSU's commitment to excellence in STEM education. We're excited to work with the EPA to develop the next generation of diverse leaders who will make meaningful contributions to environmental protection and scientific innovation."
The collaboration has been formalized through a memorandum of understanding, which will provide students with insights into various career pathways within environmental science, engineering, and sustainability.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to safeguarding human health and the environment. The EPA looks forward to ongoing collaboration with CSU aimed at enhancing environmental stewardship while promoting a sustainable future.
