U.S. Sen. Blackburn: Pam Bondi 'tenaciously fought to bring down drug cartels'

U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn said that President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for Attorney General, Pam Bondi, "tenaciously fought to bring down drug cartels" during her tenure as Florida's Attorney General. Blackburn made this remark in a December 3 post on X following a meeting with Bondi.

"@PamBondi is an experienced litigator with a proven record of leadership & excellence," said Marsha Blackburn, U.S. Senator from TN. "As FL State Attorney General, she tenaciously fought to bring down drug cartels and tackle the opioid crisis. I am confident she will lead the DOJ with the same fearlessness and veracity in prosecuting traffickers and taking on the Deep State's corruption."

According to Fox News, Trump has nominated former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to lead the Justice Department. Bondi, known as a litigator and ally of Trump, is anticipated to focus on combating drug trafficking, fentanyl imports, and cartel activities, continuing her efforts from her time in Florida. During her period as attorney general, she addressed the state's opioid crisis by shutting down pill mills and implementing legislation to prevent overprescribing. Democrat Dave Aronberg, who previously worked with Bondi, expressed that she will work on a bipartisan basis to tackle the opioid epidemic.

Monica Crowley, former assistant to the Treasury, expressed support for Bondi's nomination in an opinion piece for Newsweek. She said, "Pam Bondi is exactly the right choice to lead the Department of Justice. Intelligent, strong and a proven, fierce fighter for the American people," adding that Bondi understands what is necessary to combat powerful criminal forces and address the overwhelming drug problem. Crowley further noted that Bondi's experience in shutting down "pill mills" in Florida positions her well to address the current fentanyl crisis in America.

News Nation reported that Mexican cartels have taken control of the U.S. fentanyl market by eliminating competition through violence and bribery. The Jalisco and Sinaloa cartels are reportedly active across all 50 states, utilizing social media and corrupt law enforcement officials among other tactics to manage their drug and smuggling operations. In Philadelphia, Operation Last Mile by the Drug Enforcement Agency resulted in 3,337 arrests and seized 44 million fentanyl pills within one year. Robert Almonte, a former U.S. Marshal and narcotics detective with the El Paso Police Department told NewsNation: "The cartels are here in the United States, and not only are they here but they’re comfortable."

Pam Bondi served as Attorney General for Florida from 2011 to 2019 and is President-elect Trump's choice for U.S. Attorney General pending Senate confirmation.
