Netflix has announced the release of "Fresh Perspective: Short Films," a collection featuring 12 short films from emerging filmmakers in the United States and Canada. These filmmakers have received support from the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, which collaborates with organizations such as Gold House, Tribeca Studios, the Latino Film Institute, the National Association of Latino Independent Producers, and WIA Vancouver.

Before their debut on Netflix, these films were showcased at over 145 film festivals globally, including prestigious events like the Berlin International Film Festival and SXSW’s Film & TV Festival. Many of these shorts have earned significant awards during their festival runs.

The collection includes diverse narratives. For instance, "The Blue Drum" by Angelita Mendoza explores a supernatural mystery following a father's death. "The Braid of Time" by Tamara Shogaolu delves into ancient mythologies that empower resistance against oppression. In "Closing Dynasty" by Lloyd Lee Choi, a young girl navigates New York City streets to earn money.

Other notable entries include Caroline Guo's "Firecracker," which examines life-changing decisions around Chinese New Year; Erin Lau's "Inheritance," focusing on family pain through generations; and Monica Moore's "La Ciguapa Siempre," exploring identity amidst personal turmoil.

Eileen Alvarez's "Mama Retreat" presents fears about motherhood during a mountain retreat. Sunita Balsara and Sonia Furier’s "Ostinato" features a composer integrating unexpected sounds into her music. Justin Floyd's "Quinceañero" challenges gender norms with a unique celebration.

Derek Nguyen’s "The Resemblance" tells a story about hiring an actor to role-play a deceased son for grieving parents. Eunice Levis' "Ro & The Stardust" involves building a rocket ship with an ill grandmother. Lastly, Lorena Durán’s "Un Adios Para Lilí" deals with supernatural assistance after an accident.
