Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez is set to lead a delegation to Qatar, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates from December 7-11. The purpose of this trip is to enhance economic cooperation between Michigan and Gulf countries.
The delegation will be co-led by the American Arab Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Municipal League Foundation. It will include officials from various levels of government in Michigan as well as representatives from Michigan-based companies.
In Qatar, Under Secretary Fernandez plans to meet with officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, along with private sector representatives. He will also attend the Doha Forum on December 8.
While in Oman, Fernandez will deliver opening remarks at an event marking the 15th anniversary of the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement. He is scheduled to engage with Omani government officials and private sector leaders about expanding economic cooperation in the region.
During his visit to the United Arab Emirates, Under Secretary Fernandez will address students and faculty at New York University in Abu Dhabi. His discussions there aim to emphasize initiatives like startAD that support innovative entrepreneurship. Additionally, he will participate in high-level talks aimed at strengthening U.S.-UAE economic relations and promoting strategic investment collaboration.
