A federal jury in Portland has convicted Joshan Rohani, a 40-year-old resident of Wilsonville, Oregon, on charges related to child sexual abuse material. Rohani was found guilty of accessing with intent to view and possessing child pornography, as well as three counts of transporting such material.

Court documents reveal that in July 2021, Rohani created an account on Mega, a cloud storage service based in New Zealand. This platform allows users to create private chatrooms for sharing file links. In November 2021, during a child pornography investigation in North Carolina, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents identified a hyperlink to a Mega chatroom named “Trade links,” where files containing child pornography were shared.

The investigation uncovered that between July and December 2021, Rohani participated in at least 34 chats involving the exchange of child pornography. He also posted numerous links allowing others to access and download these illicit materials. It was further discovered that Mega had previously suspended one of his accounts in 2019 due to suspected involvement with child pornography.

On May 24, 2022, HSI agents executed a search warrant at Rohani’s home and seized various electronic devices containing child pornography. Subsequently, on October 16, 2024, a federal grand jury indicted him on six counts related to distributing and possessing child pornography.

Rohani faces up to 20 years in prison per count along with potential fines and supervised release for life. His sentencing is scheduled for June 2, 2025, before U.S. District Court Judge Karin J. Immergut.

The case was investigated by HSI with support from the Newberg-Dundee Police Department and New Zealand's Department of Internal Affairs. Prosecutors Gary Y. Sussman and Mira Chernick are handling the case for the District of Oregon.

Authorities urge anyone with information about child exploitation to contact HSI or submit tips online. Child pornography is defined under federal law as any visual depiction involving minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

This case forms part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide.
