U.S. District Judge Wendy Berger has sentenced Christian Alberto Arango, a 33-year-old resident of Deltona, to eight years and one month in federal prison. This sentence is followed by ten years of supervised release for the receipt and possession of child sexual abuse material. Additionally, the court mandated that Arango register as a sex offender and forfeit a computer and cell phone used in committing the offenses. Arango had previously entered a guilty plea on June 11, 2024.

Court documents reveal that Arango was identified during an FBI investigation targeting an individual involved in producing and selling child sexual abuse material online. On November 13, 2023, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Arango’s residence in Deltona, seizing his computer and cell phone. A forensic examination uncovered over 500 images and more than 600 videos depicting child sexual abuse, including victims as young as toddlers.

On February 13, 2024, during an interview with FBI agents, Arango confessed to purchasing and downloading hundreds of such images since approximately 2018.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation into this case, which was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Matthew Del Mastro.

This prosecution forms part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices along with the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood combines resources from federal, state, and local levels to apprehend individuals who exploit children sexually while also identifying and rescuing victims.
