William Williams, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) McDowell, has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison. This will be followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence was given for possession of a weapon by an inmate at a federal prison.

Court documents reveal that on December 12, 2022, a staff member at FCI McDowell conducted a random pat-down search of Williams. During this search, a handcrafted weapon known as a "shank" was found in his left front pants pocket. The shank was described as a piece of metal approximately five inches long with a sharpened point and a cloth handle. Williams admitted to possessing the shank and acknowledged it was designed and intended to be used as a weapon.

United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentencing and praised the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The sentence was imposed by Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber, while Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons prosecuted the case.
