Jean Volvick Moise has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for orchestrating a scheme involving false tax returns. The sentencing took place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Court records reveal that Moise, aged 39 and residing in Fort Lauderdale, prepared fraudulent tax returns for his clients. This resulted in clients receiving larger refunds than they were entitled to. The false claims included fabricated dependents, fake Form 1099 withholdings, incorrect educational credits, and non-existent business expenses on Schedules C. His service fees exceeded typical charges by tax preparers. In total, Moise filed hundreds of false returns leading the IRS to issue over $574,000 in unwarranted refunds.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida and Acting Special Agent in Charge Stefanie Hipkins of the IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS CI), Miami Field Office.
The investigation was conducted by IRS CI and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bertha R. Mitrani.
