The discussion focused on the situation in Syria, emphasizing the significance of preserving Syria's institutions and services, as well as safeguarding civilians, especially vulnerable communities.
Spokesperson Matthew Miller conveyed that Secretary Blinken reiterated U.S. support for a Syrian government accountable to its people and led by Syrians. He stressed the necessity of facilitating humanitarian aid, preventing Syria from becoming a base for terrorism or a threat to neighboring countries, and ensuring the security and destruction of chemical weapons stockpiles.
The Secretary also highlighted the responsibility of opposition groups in Syria to uphold the rights of all Syrians.
Additionally, Blinken and Al Nahyan addressed the implementation of the cessation of hostilities between Israel and Lebanon and expressed support for the Lebanese Armed Forces.
