Two men from Texas and Louisiana have been sentenced for their roles in the January 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol. Daniel Page Adams, 45, of Goodrich, Texas, and Cody Page Carter Connell, 30, of Jena, Louisiana, received sentences of 26 months in prison and three years of supervised release. They were also ordered to pay a $2,000 fine each.
The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Paul L. Friedman following a stipulated bench trial where both were found guilty of several charges. These included civil disorder and assaulting law enforcement officers during the incident at the Capitol.
Court documents detail that Adams and Connell traveled to Washington D.C. for the "Stop the Steal" rally on January 6. Following the rally, they moved to the west front of the Capitol where significant violence occurred.
The pair reportedly led a charge against police officers at the Northwest Stairs and subsequently entered the Capitol building through broken windows at the Senate Wing Door. The actions disrupted a joint session of Congress convened to certify electoral votes from the 2020 presidential election.
Both men documented their involvement on social media afterward. Adams wrote: “Just to get things straight. It wasn’t ANTIFA or BLM. It was pissed off American patriots.” Connell stated: “We were the first ones to breach the Capitol today... And today was just the start of something much bigger.”
Adams and Connell were arrested by FBI agents on January 16, 2021.
This case was prosecuted by officials from various divisions within the Department of Justice and involved investigative work by multiple FBI field offices as well as assistance from other law enforcement agencies.
Since January 6, more than 1,572 individuals across nearly all states have faced charges related to crimes committed during the Capitol breach. The investigation is still active.
