Edward Keith Perkins, a 31-year-old resident of Charleston, West Virginia, has entered a guilty plea to the charge of attempted possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The plea was made in a federal court today.
Court documents and statements revealed that on August 19, 2024, Perkins sent a package containing approximately 4.43 kilograms of methamphetamine from California to an address on Virginia Street in Charleston. On August 22, he traveled to West Virginia and went to the same address intending to collect the package from the porch and place it in his car's trunk. Law enforcement intervened as he approached his vehicle. Perkins acknowledged that the package also contained about 50 grams of fentanyl alongside the methamphetamine.
Perkins is set for sentencing on March 6, 2025. He could face up to 20 years in prison, at least three years of supervised release, and a fine of $1 million.
United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the development and praised the investigative efforts by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT). MDENT includes multiple law enforcement agencies such as the Charleston Police Department and several sheriff's offices from surrounding counties.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys JC MacCallum and Alexander A. Redmon under United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin's supervision.
