The Governments of the Republic of Korea, Australia, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, and the European Commission released a joint statement following the Minerals Security Partnership Forum's Principals' Meeting in Brussels.

On December 12 in Brussels during its Raw Materials Week, the European Commission hosted a meeting of the Minerals Security Partnership (MSP) Principals. This gathering focused on specific projects as part of the Forum's Project Group and included a workshop on local value addition as part of the Forum's Policy Dialogue Group. The meetings were co-chaired by Kim Jin-dong from ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Jose W. Fernandez from U.S. State Department; and Kerstin Jorna from the European Commission.

The Principals meeting was led by representatives from Korea and the United States and brought together government officials and private sector investors to discuss advancing MSP projects related to rare earth elements. It also aimed at identifying new responsible mining initiatives within MSP member jurisdictions.

At a deep dive meeting led by ROK for MSP projects, discussions centered around challenges faced in developing certain MSP projects such as HyProMag’s rare earth recycling project across UK, Germany and US along with Arafura Rare Earths’ Nolans Project in Australia. The Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) shared insights on its REEs recycling technology.

Participants at an MSP Forum’s Project Group meeting reviewed recent presentations from Argentina and Greenland about critical mineral projects in their regions. There will be further country presentations made over upcoming weeks through collaboration with MINVEST.

The workshop on local value addition marked a series beginning under MSP Forum’s Policy Dialogue component focusing on investment challenges within critical mineral value chains among other topics.

The next event for MSP Forum members is scheduled for February 4th during Mining Indaba in Cape Town.
