A former employee of Nationwide Children’s Hospital has been sentenced to 210 months in prison for crimes related to child pornography. Ryan Ramos, aged 38, from Columbus, was convicted in U.S. District Court after pleading guilty in May 2024 to charges of distributing and receiving child pornography as well as possession of such material.
Ramos had amassed a significant collection of child sexual abuse content, which included over 42,000 images and around 8,500 videos. The investigation into his activities identified more than 700 victims.
His employment history includes working at Nationwide Children’s Hospital from 2018 until 2020 and subsequently at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in the ICU for burn trauma until 2023.
Court documents revealed that an FBI investigation initiated in their Brooklyn-Queens office in 2020 uncovered Ramos's involvement in a Signal app group focused on exchanging child pornography. He shared numerous images and videos depicting the abuse of young boys and infants within this group.
Further examination showed that Ramos had previously paid a sexual offender based in New York City for child pornography produced by the offender. This transaction involved sending over $500 through PayPal.
Authorities found more than 346,000 messages on Ramos’s iPhone from apps like Signal and Telegram where he engaged in distributing, seeking, receiving or discussing child pornography.
The sentence was announced by Kenneth L. Parker, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, along with Elena Iatarola, Special Agent in Charge at the FBI Cincinnati Division. U.S. District Judge Sarah D. Morrison imposed the sentence while Assistant United States Attorney Emily Czerniejewski represented the prosecution.
