Yesterday, Kim Weinrich, 67, from Mustang, Oklahoma, admitted to wire fraud and filing a false tax return. U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester announced the plea.

Weinrich was charged on December 3, 2024. Between 2014 and April 2022, she worked for Mustang Public Schools as Payroll Supervisor and later Director of Payroll Services. Her duties included managing payroll for district employees. According to court documents, starting in July 2016, Weinrich altered the district's payroll software to increase her pay each period and transferred the stolen money into her bank account. This led to some employees underreporting their taxes and receiving lower refunds. The total amount defrauded was approximately $471,657.91.

Records also show that Weinrich manipulated the payroll system to falsely report paying significant federal income taxes while none were withheld. On April 5, 2022, she filed a tax return reporting an income far less than what she actually received due to her fraudulent activities.

On December 12, 2024, Weinrich pleaded guilty and acknowledged adjusting her payroll amounts for personal gain and manipulating software to falsify tax payments. She also admitted to filing a false tax return claiming an income of $91,295 despite knowing it was much higher.

Weinrich could face up to 23 years in prison and fines up to $350,000 at sentencing.

The case is being handled by IRS Criminal Investigation and the United States Secret Service with Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Brown prosecuting.
