The Foreign Ministers of several nations have issued a statement condemning the growing military collaboration between North Korea and Russia. The joint declaration was released by the Foreign Ministers of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the High Representative of the European Union.
The ministers expressed their disapproval in strong terms regarding North Korea's deployment of troops to Russia for combat against Ukraine. They highlighted that this support represents a dangerous escalation with significant implications for security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region.
The statement pointed out that North Korea's export of ballistic missiles and other military equipment to Russia violates several United Nations Security Council resolutions. Additionally, it criticized Russia for training North Korean soldiers with arms or related materials.
The ministers reiterated their commitment to supporting Ukraine in defending its sovereignty and urged North Korea to stop assisting Russia. They also called on Russia to end its aggression against Ukraine and cease its cooperation with North Korea. The international community is encouraged to join these efforts, which may include economic sanctions against the DPRK-Russia partnership.
