U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Progreso Port of Entry apprehended a man on Friday evening who was wanted for an alleged sex crime involving a minor. The individual, Adrian De la Fuente, 43, from Mercedes, Texas, was identified upon reentry into the United States from Mexico.

Port Director Walter Weaver emphasized the significance of CBP's role in maintaining national safety: "CBP officers continue to work diligently to screen and identify all travelers entering the United States to keep our country safe," he stated. He also highlighted the collaboration between CBP and local law enforcement agencies as crucial in ensuring justice.

The arrest took place on December 13 at the Progreso International Bridge. De la Fuente was referred for secondary inspection by CBP officers during which his identity was confirmed through federal law enforcement databases and biometric verification. It was discovered that he had an outstanding felony warrant issued by Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office for indecency with a child, sexual contact (fondling). Subsequently, he was handed over to Hidalgo County sheriff’s deputies.

The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) played a vital role in this process as it serves as a centralized automated database that aids information sharing among law enforcement agencies about outstanding warrants across various offenses. CBP has previously arrested individuals wanted for serious crimes such as homicide and narcotics distribution based on NCIC data.

It is important to note that criminal charges are allegations until proven guilty in court.
