Donald Hill, known as "Man Man," has been sentenced to 170 months in federal prison for drug distribution and firearm possession offenses. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport, followed by four years of supervised release.
Hill, 39, from Waterbury, was apprehended on November 29, 2022, after a police chase on Englewood Avenue. Waterbury Police officers were responding to recent shots-fired incidents when they attempted to stop Hill's vehicle. He tried to flee but was blocked by police vehicles and forcibly removed from his car. A search revealed a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number, additional ammunition, over 500 grams of crack cocaine, more than 1,600 baggies of fentanyl mixed with other substances including cocaine and xylazine, six cellphones, and $2,489 in cash.
The firearm found in Hill's possession was linked through the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) to a shooting in New Haven on January 21, 2022, and another incident in Wolcott on October 29, 2022.
Hill's criminal record includes convictions for weapon possession, narcotics distribution, escape among other offenses. He has been detained since his arrest and pleaded guilty on May 14, 2024.
The investigation involved the Waterbury Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Assistant U.S. Attorney Natasha M. Freismuth prosecuted the case under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce gun violence and violent crime through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.
The Justice Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy in May 2021 to enhance PSN efforts focusing on community trust-building measures and strategic enforcement priorities.
