David Allen Starkey, a 37-year-old resident of Flemington, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 165 months in federal prison for the unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

The case arose when officers were executing an arrest warrant for another individual at a residence in Barbour County. Starkey was discovered hiding inside the home where law enforcement also found an assault rifle and a handgun. Due to his prior convictions related to drugs, burglary, grand larceny, firearms offenses, and battery, Starkey is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Following his prison term, Starkey will be subject to three years of supervised release.

The investigation involved several agencies: the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Mountain Region Drug Task Force (a HIDTA-funded initiative); the United States Marshals Service; and the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner handled the prosecution on behalf of the government. Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case.
