U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans | U.S. Department of Justice
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Shavonda Chambers, a 44-year-old resident of New Orleans, was sentenced on December 10, 2024, for embezzling funds from her employer. The sentencing was delivered by U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan.
Court documents reveal that Chambers worked as a bookkeeper for a local business and was caught submitting false electronic payroll authorizations to an out-of-state payroll processing company. This fraudulent activity allowed her to steal and divert over $2.5 million into financial accounts she controlled.
Chambers received a sentence of thirty-six months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, she was ordered to pay more than $2.5 million in restitution and a mandatory special assessment fee of one hundred dollars.
U.S. Attorney Evans commended the United States Secret Service for their investigation efforts in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Richard R. Pickens II from the Financial Crimes Unit led the prosecution.
