Kailyn Leroy Flack, a 29-year-old resident of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 92 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a felon. This announcement was made by Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
Court documents reveal that on September 26, 2022, probation officers attempted to locate Flack after he removed his electronic ankle monitor while on state probation for a drug trafficking conviction. Upon arrival at his residence, officers noticed Flack's vehicle with open doors in the driveway and waited nearby for backup. Flack later approached the officers and was arrested. A search revealed multiple firearms in his vehicle, including several reported as stolen.
Flack was found guilty on June 27, 2024, following a bench trial. He is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a facility.
The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s Division of Community Supervision; and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Don Gast and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Annabelle Chambers prosecuted the case. Chambers is assigned by District Attorney Ashley Welch to serve as SAUSA with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aiming to reduce violent crime and gun violence through community trust-building and strategic enforcement priorities.
