Breon Peace resigns as US Attorney for Eastern District of New York

Breon Peace has announced his resignation as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, effective January 10, 2025. He has held this position since October 15, 2021. Upon his departure, First Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn Pokorny will step in as Acting United States Attorney for the district.

In a statement, Peace reflected on his tenure: "It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as United States Attorney, to be at the forefront in protecting the over eight million residents of this great district from harm, in upholding the rule of law and promoting civil rights and dignity for all people."

He expressed gratitude for working with talented colleagues and emphasized their collective achievements: "Throughout my tenure I have also had the good fortune to work with some of the most talented prosecutors and staff to be found anywhere in the country and this district and our nation are the better for their skill, sacrifice and service."

Peace concluded by expressing optimism about the future endeavors of his office: "As I leave the Office, I will always be grateful for the extraordinary work we have done together in furthering our mission...
