Supreme Court to hear arguments on TikTok divestment law

Today, the Supreme Court announced it will hear oral arguments concerning a law that mandates TikTok's divestment from foreign adversary control. This follows a recent unanimous decision by the DC Circuit Court against TikTok's challenge. The court stated, "The First Amendment exists to protect free speech in the United States. Here the government acted solely to protect that freedom from a foreign adversary nation and to limit that adversary's ability to gather data on people in the United States."

In response to the Supreme Court's announcement, Chairman John Moolenaar (R-MI) of the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party issued a statement. He expressed confidence that "when the Supreme Court considers the merits of this case next month," it will align with Congress, the Executive Branch, and the DC Circuit Court. Moolenaar emphasized that foreign adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party should not have "a constitutional right to weaponize social media applications against the American people." He anticipates that the Supreme Court will uphold bipartisan legislation aimed at protecting national security and looks forward to assisting President Trump in negotiating an American takeover of TikTok.
