Jamie L. Pannell, a 43-year-old resident of Columbus, Ohio, received a 78-month prison sentence for firearms offenses in U.S. District Court. The sentencing follows his involvement in the illegal sale of firearms and auto-conversion devices to an undercover agent during April and May 2023.
Court documents reveal that Pannell engaged in discussions about switch devices with the undercover agent, elaborating on differences between metal and plastic switches. He committed to future sales of such devices and proceeded to sell additional firearms, two of which included these switches.
Pannell's transactions totaled eight firearms sold under controlled law enforcement operations. As a convicted felon, he is legally barred from owning firearms or ammunition. His criminal history includes convictions for violent offenses against women.
Federal charges were filed against Pannell in June 2023, leading to his guilty plea in April 2024 for illegal possession of firearms as a felon and possession of machine guns.
Kenneth L. Parker, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, along with Daryl S. McCormick, Special Agent in Charge at the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF), disclosed the sentence handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Michael H. Watson. Assistant United States Attorney Elizabeth A. Geraghty represents the United States in this matter.
