David C. Weiss, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Delaware, announced that Kimon Burton-Roberson has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit kidnapping resulting in death. The plea was accepted by Chief U.S. District Judge Colm F. Connolly.

Court documents reveal that on July 21, 2021, Burton-Roberson and his co-conspirators entered a Wilmington residence where their victim was staying. They assaulted the victim with a blunt object and tied their hands with zip ties before forcibly removing them from the premises. The victim was then driven across state lines into Pennsylvania, where they were shot in the head and left in an industrial park in Delaware County.

Burton-Roberson is scheduled for sentencing on April 24, 2025, facing up to life imprisonment. Chief Judge Connolly will consider various factors including U.S. Sentencing Guidelines when determining the sentence.

U.S. Attorney Weiss commented on the collaboration between federal and local law enforcement agencies in solving this case: “By working together across jurisdictions, federal and local law enforcement identified the perpetrator of this heinous crime and brought him to justice.”

The Yeadon Police Department expressed satisfaction at assisting in resolving this case: "We are pleased to be able to work together with our federal partners...in bringing this matter to a close."

Wilmington Police Chief Wilfredo Campos emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation: "Crimes like these...underscore the critical importance of our strong partnerships with our partner law enforcement agencies."

FBI Baltimore SAC William J. DelBagno stated: "With this plea, Burton-Roberson is being held accountable for the horrific murder...The FBI's Wilmington Violent Crime and Safe Streets Task Force works every day to make our community safer."

The investigation involved cooperation among multiple agencies including FBI, Yeadon Borough Police Department, Wilmington Department of Police, and Delaware Probation and Parole.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin P. Pierce, Michelle L. Morgan, and Benjamin L. Wallace are prosecuting this case.
