A Raleigh man, Robert Terrance Green III, has been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon. This follows his involvement in a shooting incident on March 21, 2023. Green pled guilty to the charges on September 4, 2024.

Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson commented on the case: “Robert Terrance Green III is a dangerous felon who has demonstrated a reckless disregard for the lives and property of others. I am grateful that justice has been served to prevent him from further harming our community. The residents of Raleigh can sleep peacefully knowing that the Raleigh Police Department and our federal partners are committed to ridding our community of violent actors, such as Mr. Green.”

The court was informed that Green, aged 43, shot another man at an apartment complex in Raleigh after confronting him in a verbal altercation. He fired multiple rounds at the victim, hitting him twice in the left leg before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to WakeMed Hospital for treatment.

On March 27, 2023, police officers stopped Green's vehicle and found the firearm used in the shooting during their search. Following his arrest, Green admitted to shooting the victim.

Green's criminal history includes convictions for assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon or instrument, unlawful possession of a handgun, and threats of violence.

This conviction results from the Violent Crime Action Plan (VCAP) initiative aimed at addressing significant drivers of violent crime through collaborative efforts among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

U.S. Attorney Michael F. Easley Jr., announced the sentencing conclusion presided over by U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) alongside the Raleigh Police Department investigated this case while Assistant U.S. Attorney Jaren E. Kelly prosecuted it.
