Oneida County felon pleads guilty to drug and firearm charges

Leshawn Thomas, a 33-year-old resident of Clayville, New York, has pled guilty to charges involving drug distribution and firearm possession. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman alongside Frank A. Tarentino III, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Division.

Thomas, who has two previous felony convictions, confessed to having approximately 3 kilograms of cocaine and 268.14 grams of cocaine base with the intent to distribute them in Oneida County on or around April 28, 2023. He also admitted to possessing two loaded semi-automatic pistols: a Glock model 22 and a Kahr model CM9.

The sentencing for Thomas is scheduled for April 4, 2025, before Chief United States District Judge Brenda K. Sannes. He could face a minimum sentence of ten years in federal prison with a maximum potential sentence of life imprisonment and a supervised release term ranging from five years to life. The final sentence will be determined based on the specific statute violated, U.S. Sentencing Guidelines, and other considerations.

The DEA conducted the investigation with support from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (NYDOCCS). Assistant U.S. Attorney Allen J. Vickey is handling the prosecution.
