CoEric Riley, 38, and Britney Gooch, 37, both from Mesa, Arizona, have entered guilty pleas in a case involving healthcare fraud. The charges stem from fraudulent activities targeting the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), specifically its American Indian Health Program (AIHP).
Riley pleaded guilty on Tuesday, while Gooch's plea was entered on November 21, 2024. Their sentencing is set for February 21, 2025, before United States District Judge Krissa M. Lanham.
The defendants admitted to defrauding AHCCCS through their company New Horizons Behavioral Health in Mesa. They falsely billed for services not provided to AIHP patients, resulting in approximately $3.3 million in illegitimate gains.
Healthcare fraud carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation – Phoenix Division. The prosecution is being managed by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona in Phoenix.
