United States District Judge Wendy W. Berger has sentenced Gustavo De Jesus Ramirez-Ramirez, a 54-year-old Colombian national, to 27 months in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States. Ramirez-Ramirez had previously been deported and entered a guilty plea on September 16, 2024.
Court records reveal that Ramirez-Ramirez was apprehended on November 11, 2022, in Jacksonville. He was caught after rappelling from a hole in the ceiling of a business and drilling through walls into a jewelry store. Subsequently, he pleaded guilty in state court to burglary charges involving damage and entry into structures. Following his arrest, authorities discovered that Ramirez-Ramirez was unlawfully present in the United States. This marked his third deportation; one prior deportation occurred after an earlier conviction for illegal reentry in October 2014.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brenna Falzetta.
